Many people are unknowingly racist. Not necessarily against their fellow human beings but against our favorite companions, dogs. Shelters report Black Dogs are frequently overlooked because of their color. Man of these same dogs because of their color are euthanized because they can’t find a home. All because of their color.
There is even a catch phrase for this, Black Dog Syndrome.
But Black dogs are beautiful too. And don’t Black Dog’s lives matter? Color bias regarding dogs is for a few simple reasons. Some find black dogs scarier than brown, white or multi colored dogs. Since their faces appear less expressive do to the lack of pronounced eyebrows, some find their faces boring. Some simply feel that black is a boring color and prefer a more unique colored hound.
Whatever the reasons ignorance or merely personal preference, Black Dogs need love too. They are no less intelligent, are just as beautiful and will love you just as much as any other colored dog. Don’t let your biases be the end of a dog that deserves a home.
